Sheila D. Hairston is a historical fiction writer dedicated to her craft. Born in a small coal-mining town in West Virginia, she attended an all-black elementary school until third grade, when integration took place. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, she moved to New Jersey and pursued a career in administration, retiring from the workforce in 2019.
A creative spirit from an early age, Sheila's gift for writing emerged in her teenage years. Over time, she has written poems, songs, and short stories. Her other hobbies include singing and playing the piano.
In 2023, Sheila D. Hairston published her first book, E’kalb Hollow, a historical novel in which she paints vivid pictures of moments in time. She brings history to life, developing stories that have been lost or forgotten. Creating scenes from actual events and from her imagination, her stories transport readers through time and connect them with people of the past.
Sheila leads the reader's mind back to past matriarchs and patriarchs, allowing them to experience the key roles that wise old leaders played in family survival. Her writing style draws the reader into the story, evoking emotions and sparking curiosity to read more. E’kalb Hollow has been featured on UnionTV34 and will be aired on MeTV in the near future. It is also shelved in three New Jersey libraries.
The backbone of Sheila’s accomplishments is her 3D motto, Determined, Disciplined, and Driven.
